Korean peace summit recorded on Ethereum Blockchain

News

The historic moment on April 27 when South and North Korea leaders met and signed a peace agreement between the two countries has now been recorded on the ethereum blockchain permanently.

According to reports, a 27-year-old South Korean game developer, Ryu Gi-hyeok, has coded the Panmunjom Declaration, which incorporates a remark that ‘there will be no more conflict on the Korean peninsula,’ in both English and Korean language and stored both variants of the declaration in two ethereum transactions.

As widely reported globally, the event saw North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and his southern counterpart Moon Jae-in shake hands with each other last week – the first time the nations’ leaders have done so in decades – to proclaim an end to the Korean War.

Motivated by activists of the #metoo movement in China, who used the ethereum blockchain to record messages as a way to elude internet restriction, Ryu said he is also thinking of launching a website that will “keep all historical records immutable and permanent” on a blockchain.

In the earlier case, it was reported that an open letter drafted by a senior student from China’s prestigious Peking University about an old case of alleged rape was censored initially on the internet in China. However, it was later transformed to code and stored on the ethereum blockchain by an unknown individual.

The move consequently sparked interest across members from various universities in China, who subsequently opened up about their support for the letter’s writer through the blockchain.
